Teaching Philosophy
My values in & outside the classroom!
01
I wholeheartedly believe that art education is not just teaching kids how to create but also helping kids uncover WHY they want to create. As an art educator, my hope for all my students is for them to understand that the process involved in creating art is a large part of what makes art so valuable, not necessarily what the outcome or final product might be. This means that within my classroom, a playful mindset is constantly being emphasized while encouraging a gentile curiosity about the unknown.
02
I give my students the allowance to do this investigating through whatever means necessary by providing them with a curriculum that incorporates and introduces a variety of issues, artists, techniques and topics. As an art educator I am also constantly seeking for new ways to present this information in order to meet the diverse needs of each student. When this freedom is given to the students they have an invaluable opportunity to dig deep into things that intrinsically motivate and interest them.
03
By doing this reflection in a classroom environment where students can engage in discussion with their classmates to learn about what is important to their peers, students will learn how to be emphatic, authentic and thoughtful. My hope is that my students will take these skills and apply them outside of the classroom to set them up for successful and healthy relationships with themselves and others.
